More spring Observations at Granton Castle Walled Garden
Spring is now in full flight, and Ingsay shares more of her observations in the garden.
Goldfinches
Flocks of goldfinches are wittering away high in the trees. They rely on seeds, so hunt out your Nijer Seed holder and hang it where you can watch these stylish beauties.

Mount Aso Willow (Salix gracilistyla)
The Mount Aso Willow, grown from a cutting, has produced pink catkins.
Robin
This is a time when the Robin sings very loud and clear to establish his territory. It makes one think of a thin trickle of crystal water falling from a height. Do you know, male and female robins have identical plumage?
Males feed females, females make the nest.

Opium Poppy
A wee group of Opium Poppy seedlings have survived in the Gravel Garden. Let’s hope they manage a fine show of blazing red flowers.
