Flower Farmers Update

It has been a busy old time for the flower farmers in our other guise as wedding florists under the name Ochre Botanical Studios. The majority of the flowers we grow are cut for beautiful, seasonal weddings and events all over the city (and a wee bit further afield too). Organically grown flowers and foliage produce lots of wonderful, naturally occurring colour variations and subtle olfactory hits; characteristics that we see as significant highlights. It feels very special to use them in arrangements that become part of such special memories for our couples.

We had a lovely summer workshop at the garden at the end of August, where folk came along to make buttonholes. We’ve had many favourite flowering stems over the summer, but special mentions must be made of the tagetes and the sweetest little currant tomatoes. We cannot exclude our all-time favourite sweet peas from the list either. And now, as we’ve moved into September, we are all gushing over the crisping, golden textures and pink-tinged foliage that signal the upcoming change in season. Autumn is a wonderful time for flowers as they take on all the russety, golden, caramel, and chocolatey brown tones that we, as a collective, all love.
