The garden will be open as part of Doors Open Days 2026 on 26 and 27 September, 1.30-4 pm both days. This year the theme is “Heritage at Risk: Revive, Resist, Reimagine.

Discover how The Friends of Granton Castle Walled Garden are helping to revive a historic place, champion sustainable gardening practices, and reimagine the role of a community garden for the future.

Join us for a programme of activities celebrating the garden’s rich history, biodiversity and living traditions:

  • Guided Garden Walk & Talk
  • Wool Dyeing Demonstration & Exhibition
  • Fungi Demonstration

Our guided walk explores the fascinating history of the Walled Garden, from its origins as a productive market garden, through years of decline, to its revival as a thriving community garden. Along the way, discover how volunteers are restoring this historic site, caring for wildlife through sustainable gardening, and creating opportunities for people to reconnect with nature, heritage and one another.

The walk begins just inside the garden gate and follows fairly level ground with a gentle incline halfway round. There will be three walks each day, starting at 21.45 pm and 2.30 pm and 3.15 pm approximately from the gatehouse.

No booking necessary.

Please note that paths can be uneven and wheelchair access is limited.
