January has passed quickly with the deep freeze making the garden sparkle with a dusting of ice crystals and earth crisp underfoot some mornings as work continued with facilities like our new glasshouse installed.
Our lovingly created firepit using reclaimed bricks was lit to mark Imbolc and the lengthening daylight. It crackled into flame scented with lavender twigs and seasoned branches, driving out the cold and warming hands and hearts, with the fire providing a natural gathering point to blether and plan for the spring.
Exciting news is we have two new sessional workers thanks to community grant funding from Edinburgh City Council; helping to deliver some free ‘Anything but Gardening’ creative events and open days. Dates and details to follow soon so keep an eye out.
Extra Monday 1-3pm volunteer gardening sessions for ten weeks from February 18th, starting tomorrow! Our usual Sunday session from 11-1pm and Wednesday from 10-12pm. Huge thanks to Ashley Erdman for her photographic work helping us to document the impact of community volunteers already in 2019. https://ashleyerdman.xyz/2019/02/15/keeping-the-hearth-fires-burning/
