Peek behind the walls of Granton’s lost Castle Garden.

Long summer days in July have given the Friends Group volunteers the chance to really get stuck into the garden. We hope to have cleared and prepared 1/4 of an acre by the autumn, ready for a bit of planting in the ‘kitchen garden’.
Some areas of the garden are clear now of weeds and a few paths open letting small groups of visitors and volunteers get a feel for the garden this summer. A few images of the lost garden below and on flickr – July progress documented by talented photographer Ashley Erdman Granton Castle Walled Garden

This September the walled garden is to be open to the public as part of the Cockburn Association’s Doors Open Day 2017. A few ideas in the planning with students from Edinburgh College of art, experts from Historic Environment Scotland and of course our very own Friends Group members. Details of activities nearer the time. Booking essential but free! Doors Open Day tickets – hourly guided tours – 23rd Sept
Other news and a plea for help in raising awareness of this remarkable secret garden hidden on Granton’s waterfront. This weekend is your last chance to vote for the garden as one of Scotland’s best kept secret historic sites Discover Scotland in Six Hidden Gems Give the walled garden a like on Facebook if you can, as Edinburgh’s entry in this Scotland wide competition.
A great wee write-up from a travel writer and recent visitor gives an interesting first impression and glimpse of the historic garden past and present. Granton Castle’s secret walled garden
